FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions, answered.
Everything you'd want to know before reaching out — and if something's missing, we're always a phone call away.
We treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD), mood disorders, and chronic pain conditions that haven't responded to conventional treatment. Our two core services are Spravato (esketamine) nasal spray and IV ketamine infusion, each suited to slightly different needs — we'll help you figure out which fits during your consultation.
Spravato is FDA-approved specifically for treatment-resistant depression and MDD with suicidal ideation. IV ketamine is used more broadly, including for chronic pain that hasn't responded to other treatments, alongside depression. Rather than guessing, we walk through your history, diagnosis, and goals together during your initial evaluation and recommend the option that fits — sometimes that's one, sometimes it's a combination.
No referral is required. You can request a consultation directly, and our clinical team — overseen by board-certified physicians — will handle your evaluation from there. If you're currently working with a therapist or psychiatrist, we're happy to coordinate care with them as well.
We start with a telehealth evaluation from home. You'll talk through your history, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping for — no pressure, no sales pitch. From there, we'll verify your insurance and talk through whether Spravato, IV ketamine, both, or something else entirely makes the most sense.
Before your first session, we'll complete a full medical and psychiatric evaluation, verify your insurance benefits, and answer any remaining questions. We'll also go over what a session actually looks like — how long it takes, what you might feel, and how you'll be monitored — so there are no surprises going in.
In most cases, yes — Spravato is specifically designed to be used alongside an oral antidepressant, and IV ketamine is often used in conjunction with ongoing therapy and medication management. We'll review your current medications during your evaluation to make sure everything works safely together, and we're glad to stay in touch with your existing providers.
Most major insurance plans cover Spravato, and many cover components of IV ketamine treatment as well. We're in-network with:
- Aetna
- BCBS of Massachusetts
- Cigna
- Harvard Pilgrim Health Plan
- Humana
- MassHealth
- Medicare
- Medicaid
- Tufts Health Plan & Tufts Health Together
- Tricare
- United (UHC)
- WellSense
Cost depends heavily on your specific insurance coverage and which treatment you pursue. For many patients with insurance, Spravato treatments can range from no cost up to around $1,000 per session depending on plan specifics. We'll give you a clear picture of your expected costs after verifying your benefits — before you commit to anything.
Individual sessions typically run one to two hours, including observation time afterward. As for the full course of care, most patients start with sessions once or twice a week for the first several weeks, tapering to less frequent maintenance sessions — often over a total of one to two months or more, depending on your response.
Yes. Both Spravato and IV ketamine can cause temporary dissociation, drowsiness, or dizziness, so you should not drive or operate machinery for the remainder of the day after treatment. Please arrange a ride home in advance — this is a firm safety requirement, not a suggestion.
Initial evaluations and follow-ups are currently handled via telehealth, from wherever's convenient for you. Spravato and IV ketamine treatment itself is administered in person at our Woburn or Danvers, MA locations, seven days a week with extended hours.
Yes, when administered and monitored by trained clinicians. Every treatment at Emerge is overseen by board-certified physicians — not just nurse practitioners — and you're closely monitored throughout each session for any side effects. Spravato is administered under the FDA-required REMS safety program, and IV ketamine follows similarly careful clinical protocols.
Request a free consultation through our website or by phone. We'll schedule your telehealth evaluation, verify your insurance, and walk you through next steps from there — no pressure, no obligation, just a conversation about what might actually help.
